MRI results Jan 23, 2018
Poor Abby had a rough day today. They always have a tough time finding her veins and today was no different. Took 2 hours to place her iv but she was so brave. They also did not put the numbing cream on for her because it makes her veins harder to find. After a few tries they ended up sending her down to the OR to have an anesthesiologist place her iv. Got it on the first try. Then off to her MRI an hour late. Once that was done we went upstairs to get the results. We were so late that all the nurses had gone home and just the Dr. Was there. Results were ok. The tumor has not grown more since December which is good news but it has not gotten any smaller either. We were worried that the tumor may have continued to grow at the same rate it had from Sept-Dec so no growth is good news!
Abby has been extra exhausted the last few weeks. Last week she came home early everyday from school. She is missing quite a bit of school and is starting to fall behind. We are looking at some online options for her as she is a very dedicated student and is self motivated. She could do very well with some online learning to supplement the time she is able to stay in class.
Feb. 1 they are sending Abby for an audiology test to see if the part of the tumor that has grown back on her fifth nerve (that goes out to her left ear) is causing hearing loss. We are still watching for any changes in balance, hearing, sight or pain in her left ear to indicate issues caused by the regrowth.
Abby continues to be her happy, hard working self through all of this and continues to practice her piano, ukulele and guitar. She may have to drop out of band as we think it is causing her headaches to be blowing so hard into her clarinet and the noise in the band room doesn't help her headaches either.
Now we watch and wait for any changes and an MRI once again in 8 weeks.
